Matthew Isais Bowker is a Mexican-Italian American Saxophonist, composer and educator. He holds a Bachelor of Music degree in Music Education as well as a California Teaching Credential from Sonoma State University. Bowker has placed in competitions at the domestic and international levels including the King’s Peak Competition, London Classical International Competition, Międzynarodowy Konkurs Muzyczny International Competition, Medici International Competition and Sonoma State University's Concerto Competition. Bowker has received masterclasses from artists such as Otis Murphy, Jonathan Yanik, and David Henderson and performed as a guest artist in various ensembles including the USAF Band of the Golden West and Napa Valley Youth Symphony.
As a composer, Mr. Bowker has written compositions for Symphony Orchestra, solo saxophone, and various chamber ensembles. He has participated and placed in composition competitions such as the Symphonia Caritas Composition Competition and the NAFME student composers competition. As a music educator, Mr. Bowker served as President of the NAfME chapter at Sonoma State University and as a member of the CMEA Collegiate Council. Currently, he is working on an album and composition project, entitled "Voices of Mexico," that aims to bridge the gap between classical and Mexican music. Through this project, seven pieces have been arranged and published for String Orchestra and Wind Ensemble, making Mexican music more accessible for schools. |
