25-year old Hikaru Hallberg is a Sonoma County native. First introduced to the piano by his mother at age 3, Hikaru studied classical piano with organist Mark Rasmussen for 12 years, and for 5 years with Director of Piano Studies Marilyn Thompson at Sonoma State University, where he was a recipient of the Ezra G. Rust Musical Talent Scholarship, Evert B. Person Endowment Fund, and Thompson Memorial Piano Scholarship. Hikaru is also the winner of Sonoma State's 7th Annual Concerto competition, and he made his professional debut in March of 2023 performing Shostakovich's 2nd Piano Concerto with the
Winchester Orchestra of San Jose. Hikaru is also an avid trumpet player of 17 years, holding principal positions in various Honor Bands and the SSU Symphony Orchestra. He is equally proficient in jazz idiom, most recently playing lead trumpet in the Moonlighters Swing Band in Santa Rosa. Hikaru has performed at various venues throughout California and parts of Japan, and currently works as a freelance musician and piano accompanist in Sonoma County. Some of his piano works are featured on Telltale Games' The Walking Dead video game. His hobbies include composing/arranging and recording music, ice skating, and spending time with his two cats. |
